Smallpox, also known as variola, is an infectious disease that is dangerous to adult humans and is caused by variola viruses, also called poxviruses.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease has been completely eradicated. Therefore, it is no longer intended for immunization by vaccination. This disease is one of the most dangerous for humans due to its high infectivity and mortality (death rate).
