SARS was first observed in 2002 in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong. This was the beginning of a pandemic that spread to almost all continents within a few months, killing about 1000 people. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, muscle pain, cough, shortness of breath, and lack of oxygen in the blood and organs.


Therapy: The isolated patient is given oxygen, antipyretics such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to alleviate symptoms, balancing of the water balance and administration of certain proteins that strengthen the immune system.
