Osteoporosis - colloquially bone loss

Bone atrophy is a reduction in the bony scaffolding substance of the bone cortex and bone bellows. This leads to a reduction in the mechanical load-bearing capacity and thus to bone fractures and deformations.

We distinguish between temporary >pregnancy osteoporosis, the most common form, >postmenopausal osteoporosis, which occurs in about 30% of women after menopause, and the second most common form, >age osteoporosis. It affects both women and men in old age, and women are twice as likely to develop it.
