Malaria is detectable by a blood test and causes symptoms such as fever, headache and pain in the limbs, diarrhea and vomiting. Today, it is transmitted mainly in the tropics and subtropics by a female mosquito of the genus Anopheles. Outside these areas, mosquitoes introduced by air occasionally trigger the so-called "airport malaria".
