Lassa fever is a notifiable infectious disease transmitted to humans by the Lassa virus through rodents. In 1969, an American missionary nurse in the town of Lassa died of it in Nigeria. This is where the name Lassa virus comes from.

Infected people were flown to the USA for treatment. In New York City, two laboratory infections occurred among scientists who isolated the virus. One of the infected died as a result of the disease. In most cases, the disease is mild, but it can be fatal. Therefore, timely treatment is important.
Therapy: It is important to treat within the first six days after the onset of the disease. Administration of >Ribavirin< under isolation of the patient.
