Causes and possible triggers for gastritis can be a bacterial or viral infection, as well as stress, trauma from surgical procedures, medication use, or smoking. The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine and connects directly to the stomach. The inflammation in it is often caused by bacteria of the gastric mucosa, but also by a viral disease, by increased intake of medications or improper diet.
