This mainly causes complaints such as pain in the left lower abdomen, fever, constipation and flatulence. However, the intestinal wall remains undamaged. In the case of inflammation of the diverticula, which affects only about 25% of patients, treatment is initially with antibiotics. In another 6%, we speak of complicated diverticulitis requiring surgical treatment; which is the case when the disease is associated, for example, with fistulas, an abscess, bleeding, and very severe episodes of the disease, etc. We can prevent it by exercising, eating a diet rich in fiber and avoiding excessive fat, white flour, sugar and raw meat.
