It can also spread to the soles of the feet and toenails; in this case, the skin becomes sore, cracked, itchy and peels off. Tinea is a red, itchy rash, usually in the groin area.
The main pathogen is the filamentous fungus Trichophyton (75%). It thrives best in warm, moist environments such as public wet rooms. It can also be contracted through person-to-person transmission or a shared towel.
