Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - smoker's lung

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) does not develop overnight. It is often associated with years of smoking (smoker's lung). But viral infections or frequent exposure to dust and gases at work can also promote the disease.

The chronically inflamed mucosa and the viscous mucus in the lungs narrow the airways. Obstruction of the respiratory flow (obstruction) presents itself as the main problem of the disease. Affected individuals suffer from shortness of breath especially during physical exertion, which is often mistakenly attributed to obesity and lack of exercise. Symptoms such as coughing, increased and viscous sputum as well as fatigue and less performance also accompany the disease.

The treatment of COPD depends on the stage of the disease and the lung function; however, in any case, we recommend that you stop smoking and also avoid passive smoking.
