Checking the condition - First aid road traffic

Consciousness and breathing

Here you will find basic steps, clear instructions, measures and procedures for first aid, for accidents on the road with the car, motorcycle, bicycle and school bus or wild animals.

You arrive at the scene of an accident as a first responder, turn on the hazard lights and, in darkness and poor visibility, turn on the lights as well, slow down and park your vehicle safely at the side of the road, get out carefully and put on a high-visibility vest.

You may be paralyzed with fear, that's okay, it will make you alert and help you recognize what is happening. Now overcome your fear, get an overview and secure the accident scene by putting out the warning triangle and possibly asking other road users to slow down.

Warning triangle

You carry the warning triangle in front of your body and walk towards the traffic on the edge of the road or behind the crash barrier. You move your arm up and down to slow down the following traffic.

You place the warning triangle about 50 - 200 meters in front of the accident site, depending on the speed of the traffic and the visibility conditions in front of the accident site. Also make sure to place the warning triangle before blind curves and hilltops.

After you have secured the accident site, call the emergency number 112 as soon as possible.

It will take 10-15 minutes until the emergency services will arrive. Depending on the distance, traffic and weather conditions, it may take longer. That is why it is so important to make the emergency call quickly. If necessary, this can also be done by a second responder. You can also ask the employee of the 112 control center to give you instructions and assistance. You can also ask other accident witnesses for help.

Euro emergency 112

Dial 112 and wait for the questions.

Despite all the excitement at the scene of the accident, do not hang up prematurely. An employee of 112 will ask you all the necessary questions and guide you through the conversation.

At an emergency call box you lift the flap, keep calm and wait until the employee of the control center answers. The control center can be dialed without area code, free of charge even on a cell phone without SIM/PIN and is usually available in several languages 24 hours a day.

If you have dialed by mistake, do not put your name and that everything is fine.
