Acute bronchitis

Acute bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes with a persistent cough, sometimes with mucous sputum. It may also be accompanied by wheezing breath, fever, headache and pain in the limbs.

Bronchitis is usually caused by a virus and often follows a cold. For healthy people, it is usually harmless and improves after a few days; however, the cough may persist for several weeks.

Smokers and people who spend a lot of time in air-polluted places are especially susceptible to bronchitis.
