Measles, epidemic

Measles (lat. Morbilli) is caused by the highly contagious measles virus. It is still a dangerous to fatal infectious disease in developing countries, affecting mainly children.

In Africa and Asia, measles is one of the most common infectious diseases with a very high mortality rate. For a long time, measles was not given much importance in our western region; however, in addition to the typical red skin spots, fever and a weak general condition, life-threatening complications can sometimes still occur even in Europe.

In most countries, the disease is notifiable.

Since March 1, 2020, there is a vaccination obligation for measles in Germany.

Therapy: Prevention by vaccination or vaccination in the first four days of infection.
